LOS ANGELES -- Nicolas Cage has donated $2 million to help former child soldiers worldwide. The donation by the Oscar-winning actor will help provide shelters and medical and psychological rehabilitation services, said Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty International USA.
Cox accepted the donation Wednesday at a United Nations Conference in New York. Amnesty International will administer the funds.
"I understand that this pledge is not a solution for the problem," Cage, 42, said when he announced the contribution by video.
"It's my hopeful wish that today's discussions on this tragic subject at the United Nations conference may bring us closer to eradicating the nightmare of child soldiers."
Cage said he has worked with Amnesty International for more than two years.
The United Nations estimates there are at least 300,000 child soldiers participating in armed conflicts in the world today.

Powering up Tomorrowland - Dreams Do Come True with urban Wi-Fi — and Anaheim!
In the past decade Garry Betty has experimented with just about every possible way of connecting his customers to the Internet — and wiped $1 billion of his shareholders' capital off the balance sheet in the process. But now the chief executive of Earthlink says he sees a way to take his revenge on the giant rivals who have long beaten him bloody.
In Anaheim, Calif. Earthlink has attached little white boxes to 1,500 traffic lights. At the end of the month Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle will cut a ceremonial wire, turning on those boxes and powering up America's first big-city Wi-Fi network, which will offer residents high-speed wireless Web access across Anaheim for $22 per month.
While many cities have fought bitter public battles over building urban Wi-Fi networks — phone and cable companies loathe the idea of the cut-rate competition — Anaheim is about to become the first major-league city to do it.

HAPPY "PARENTS" DAY - Weekend Good News
NEW YORK — Internet search leader Google is testing a system that aims to speed purchases online but bears no resemblance to the popular PayPal payments service of Web auctioneer eBay, Google's chief executive said Thursday. Analysts had recently speculated whether Google would directly compete with PayPal, dubbing its potential new service "GBuy." Google has not yet announced details of such a service or given it a name. But Google CEO Eric Schmidt provided limited details about the system Thursday. The company's payment system will aim to facilitate quicker purchases by a consumer from a marketer, and a beta version is expected soon, he said.
"It's not like PayPal at all," Schmidt said when asked about "GBuy" during a New York meeting hosted by Conde Nast's new Portfolio business magazine.
"It makes no sense for us to go into businesses that are occupied by existing leaders," he said. "We want to solve new problems in the payments space."

House OKs new FCC indecency fines? WE Remember "Andy Griffith," "Leave IT to Beaver" and "Father Knows Best" But Does Our Society Today ?
The 379-35 House vote on the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act [sends the clear message that] Congress gave notice to broadcasters Wednesday.
The National Association of Broadcasters said it would prefer to see the nation’s 13,000 radio stations and 1,700 TV stations police themselves. “The NAB position is that we think responsible self-regulation is preferable to government regulation in areas of program content,” spokesman Dennis Wharton said.
Since the 2004 Super Bowl incident, many broadcasters have voluntarily policed their broadcasts through means such as five-second delays on live broadcasts.
The legislation coming out of the Senate does not go as far as a bill sponsored by Upton that the House passed last year. That measure would have increased the maximum fine to $500,000, allowed fines for individual performers and given the FCC the authority to revoke the licenses of broadcasters fined three or more times.
The FCC has also actively responded to the increase in complaints about lewd material over the airwaves, with total fines jumping from $440,000 in 2003 to almost $8 million in 2004.
The agency recently handed down its biggest fine, $3.3 million, against more than 100 CBS affiliates that aired an episode of the series “Without a Trace” that simulated an orgy scene. That fine is now under review.
The FCC recently denied a petition of reconsideration from CBS Corp.-owned stations facing $550,000 in fines over the Janet Jackson breast-revealing incident at the 2004 Super Bowl.
Under FCC rules and federal law, radio stations and over-the-air television channels may not air obscene material at any time, and may not air indecent material between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. when children are more likely to be in the audience.

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. Merger mania: Yahoo, eBay, Microsoft, Google ?
Reuters has a speculative story, based on a JPMorgan Chase report, that a major tectonic plate is shifting [and] will occur among the major Internet presences.
Growth is slowing, competition is getting more fierce, and bulking up and making strategic alliances (at the expense of their competitors) is viewed as a way to defend the moat.
eBay and Yahoo, Microsoft and Yahoo may be revisited, and Google will likely sit it out, according to the report. Last night I had dinner with Andy Abramson, who speculated that Microsoft could hook up with another Seattle-based company, Amazon.
Or, how about Microsoft and eBay?
Or, AOL and …?

Speculation is rife on Wall Street that a big Internet deal or alliance is in the works, with Google, Yahoo, eBay or Microsoft as possible partner--and a Yahoo-eBay partnership seen as most likely.
"A partnership or merger between eBay and Yahoo is the most strategically feasible," a report authored by analyst Imran Khan and the JPMorgan Chase Internet team said Monday.
"A combined company would have the leading position in auctions, communications, payments, graphical advertising, audience reach and geographic breadth," the report said.
Silicon Valley insiders, high-tech bankers and financial analysts are giving new credence to potential merger deals, which fly in the face of common wisdom that the Internet's rapid growth has always outweighed the logic of consolidation.
But Internet growth is slowing, and competition among the biggest companies--Google, Yahoo, eBay and Microsoft--is intensifying.
eBay stock is down 30 percent on the year.
Yahoo is off 20 percent, and
Google down 10 percent.
Google, which nearly doubled its revenues last year, is expected to grow 62 percent this year.
eBay is seen growing 30 percent, down from 50 percent two years ago, and
Yahoo's growth is slowing at a similar pace.
eBay spokesman Hani Durzy said the company works very closely with all the major Web search providers--Google, Yahoo and Microsoft--but he declined to comment on any potential Yahoo tie-up.
eBay is one of the world's biggest buyers of Web search terms. It manages a portfolio of 15 million keywords on different search sites aimed at wooing bidders.
"We don't comment on rumors and speculation," Durzy said. "We are talking to Yahoo and other companies all the time as part of our normal course of business."
Yahoo was not immediately available to comment.
The 56-page JPMorgan report weighs other scenarios, including the possibility that Microsoft's MSN Internet unit would strike a partnership with Yahoo. Google is viewed as likely to sit out big mergers and continue to go it alone, Imran argues, a view that many Wall Street analysts share.
Investors worry that gains by these companies are likely to come at the expense of one another, rather than through Internet expansion, driving shares down this year.
Microsoft shares are off 12 percent so far in 2006, hit by product delays as well as a recent move by the company to step up investment to better compete with Google and Yahoo.
Market share gains by Google are most frequently said to be driving the talk of partnerships or mergers.
On May 3, The Wall Street Journal carried a story that Microsoft's MSN unit was planning a stop-Google strategy by seeking to buy a stake in Yahoo.
Last week, Yahoo Chief Executive Terry Semel confirmed that his company had been approached by Microsoft to buy a piece of Yahoo's search business. He ruled out a deal for what he viewed as a centerpiece of Yahoo's strategy to sell Web advertising.
"I will not sell a piece of search--it is like selling your right arm while keeping your left; it does not make any sense," Semel said in a public forum in New York last week, where he was interviewed by The New Yorker writer Ken Auletta.
He dismissed an outright merger between Microsoft and Yahoo, saying, "That conversation has never come up."
"For me, the most interesting alignment would be putting together Yahoo and eBay," analyst Scott Devitt of brokerage Stifel Nicolaus said, but he cautioned: "These things tend to be discussed often and rarely occur."
The strengths of Yahoo and eBay are seen as complementary, with Yahoo in media and eBay in e-commerce.
Yahoo's foreign strength is in Asia, and eBay's is in Europe.
The most compelling scenario is an alliance where eBay uses Yahoo search to drive consumers to eBay auctions, Devitt said.
In return, Yahoo could take advantage of assets such as eBay's PayPal online payments franchise and the vast Skype Web telephone audience that eBay has acquired, he said.
eBay must tread carefully, however, so that it does not cut off ties to Google. The online auctioneer depends on Google search referrals for an increasing amount of its audience.
"I don't particularly find eBay in a position of power," Devitt said. "eBay needs its relationship with Google."

USA Today Does a Triple Play - the GOOD NEWS is?

Pity the poor tech-stock investor. While the market in general had a dreadful day Wednesday and has been struggling for two weeks, the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite has had a bummer month and year. It's down 7.4% since mid-April and dipping into its lowest levels since December.

Parents are learning that if they want teens to communicate with them, they need to keep up with the technology whether it's MySpace and instant messaging or cellphone texting and multi-player computer games. Happy Mothers Day - Helping Those With Mental Handicaps or Illness?
From the Wash Post - April 23 - editorial section:
[Some still to this day are using the] "Insanity Offense" [as it was] used by a recent Supreme Court case to argue that our health and legal systems prevent the mentally ill or handicapped from getting treatment before they commit crimes and then treat them as criminals after they do.
In the District, the Ervin Act balances the rights of the individual with the interests of society by providing mental health services for those in need and protecting the safety of the community. The act provides for the Commission on Mental Health of the D.C. Superior Court, a three-person panel that holds hearings on every referred case of an alleged mentally ill person who is likely to be dangerous as a result of the illness.
As is "not always the case" in Family Law: "All parties are given a thorough hearing while represented by lawyers."

There is always a best way of doing everything. Find it - Embrace it.
True greatness comes from being great in even the samllest of things.
If you will only try, you can always do a little more each day.
Manytimes it can be more than you think you possibly can.
It will be in your constant effort to be first-class in everything you attempt to do that will help you and others conquer the heights of success - like David and Goliath of ancient times.
When you do more than the average ind your progress multiplies itself out in exact proportion to the effort you put into something. Neg words and deeds equal the same in return - but pos words and deeds can yield so much more.
Always do more than you're supposed to do and you can have,
become or achieve anything you want in spite of impossible odds against you.
If you truly want enduring success try to think positvely about others, be honest with your spouse, family and others in your community by sharing a little more than most - in advance of the rest of the world.
"Together" we can take on a giant system and have the will to win what is right and good - like David and Goliath of ancient times.
Our efforts to simply expose the truth for and about gender equality - not bashing - one another... truly can change lives for the better - everyday.
We can together share our lives, and "love for our neighbor."
Can WE show others "how this is truly about helping those less fortunate than ourselves" - and as we do - that it will ultimately help those in our society needing it? Do so for our children and families - and ALL those future generations - who truly CAN SEE and HEAR the truth about - and by example lead with unselfish love and respect for one another - in every way.
If you have something nice to say about someone share it with others...
If you can't find something nice to say - then keep it to yourself...

A 10,000-mile air circulation pattern over the Pacific Ocean is getting weaker, threatening to shut down the easterly trade winds and starve fish, a new study said.
The most likely cause of the decline of the current, known as the Walker circulation, is human activity, researchers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Miami said in today's edition of the journal Nature.

When Lightning Strikes - Can WE Share our "Light and our Love" w/ the World?

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A man was fatally struck by lightning while talking to his neighbor about the coming hurricane season. Harold Bennett, 65, was standing outside his home when he was hit in the head about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, said neighbor Judy Thompson.
“It was like somebody had shot him,” Thompson said. “The lightning went right through him ... It was horrible.”
It was lightly raining when Bennett was taking the garbage outside and spotted Thompson rearranging furniture.
“He always liked to talk any chance he got, and he asked me if I was moving,” Thompson said. “I said I was just clearing out the back for hurricane season.”
The two were standing about 25 feet apart. Thompson was not hurt.

-----------Homeless Man Saves Cop's Life - Does the Right Thing
PORTLAND, OR - Two weeks after police have credited [a homeless man] with saving the life of one of their own, he is still there, in the parking lot, downplaying his actions as police drive by every so often to offer thanks or donations.
Bret Smith, the commander of Northeast Precinct, where Off Tobey is assigned on the graveyard shift, hopes to find Whitman [some] transitional housing - another way of showing gratitude. "He deserves that and anything else we can do for him," Smith said.
Off Tobey said "he could not find words that expressed the depth of his feelings" for the [homeless man]. "He was a blessing to me, simply," he said. "A guy was beating on me and wouldn't have stopped unless [Whitman] pulled him off - I'm sure of that."
But Whitman, 53, doesn't think of himself as any kind of hero. Home for him is a 1977 Lincoln Versailles, faded pastel yellow, with tags that expired in December 2003.
But to Portland cops, his actions are a big deal. Wednesday night, about 15 officers and sergeants from the graveyard shift drove from the precinct to the bar parking lot after graveyard-shift roll call with a carload of blankets, long johns and food. They also came with money left in an envelope put out at two Northeast Precinct roll calls, which they thought would add up to $30 or $40, enough for a few nice meals.
"It turned out to be about $250," Teig said. "People from every precinct have been giving us stuff for this guy, so I think we'll be making more trips out to see him. We couldn't fit everything in the car."
Whitman said what he really needs is a secure job. He was in the Navy from 1971 to 1974, he said, then got jobs doing custom woodwork, later building exhibits at the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry. Heart and prostate problems forced him to cut back his hours, he said. Then, a year and a half ago, he said, he got laid off.
"I just can't hump sheets of plywood anymore, but I'd love to be doing something, y'know?" he said. He seemed taken aback that anyone would want to know more about him.
"I didn't do nothing special," he said.
"You would be surprised," Teig said, "how many people don't step up [when they are needed]."
"In this neighborhood, people should know what this guy did for one of our guys and that we got his back," Teig said. "I hope nobody tries to lay a hand on him except to shake his hand."
"That would be nice, real nice," [Whitman] said. "[I] Don't know what all this fuss is about, though. I don't want anybody to make a big deal."

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A man was fatally struck by lightning while talking to his neighbor about the coming hurricane season. Harold Bennett, 65, was standing outside his home when he was hit in the head about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, said neighbor Judy Thompson.
“It was like somebody had shot him,” Thompson said. “The lightning went right through him ... It was horrible.”
It was lightly raining when Bennett was taking the garbage outside and spotted Thompson rearranging furniture.
“He always liked to talk any chance he got, and he asked me if I was moving,” Thompson said. “I said I was just clearing out the back for hurricane season.”
The two were standing about 25 feet apart. Thompson was not hurt.

PORTLAND, OR - Two weeks after police have credited [a homeless man] with saving the life of one of their own, he is still there, in the parking lot, downplaying his actions as police drive by every so often to offer thanks or donations.
Bret Smith, the commander of Northeast Precinct, where Off Tobey is assigned on the graveyard shift, hopes to find Whitman [some] transitional housing - another way of showing gratitude. "He deserves that and anything else we can do for him," Smith said.
Off Tobey said "he could not find words that expressed the depth of his feelings" for the [homeless man]. "He was a blessing to me, simply," he said. "A guy was beating on me and wouldn't have stopped unless [Whitman] pulled him off - I'm sure of that."
But Whitman, 53, doesn't think of himself as any kind of hero. Home for him is a 1977 Lincoln Versailles, faded pastel yellow, with tags that expired in December 2003.
But to Portland cops, his actions are a big deal. Wednesday night, about 15 officers and sergeants from the graveyard shift drove from the precinct to the bar parking lot after graveyard-shift roll call with a carload of blankets, long johns and food. They also came with money left in an envelope put out at two Northeast Precinct roll calls, which they thought would add up to $30 or $40, enough for a few nice meals.
"It turned out to be about $250," Teig said. "People from every precinct have been giving us stuff for this guy, so I think we'll be making more trips out to see him. We couldn't fit everything in the car."
Whitman said what he really needs is a secure job. He was in the Navy from 1971 to 1974, he said, then got jobs doing custom woodwork, later building exhibits at the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry. Heart and prostate problems forced him to cut back his hours, he said. Then, a year and a half ago, he said, he got laid off.
"I just can't hump sheets of plywood anymore, but I'd love to be doing something, y'know?" he said. He seemed taken aback that anyone would want to know more about him.
"I didn't do nothing special," he said.
"You would be surprised," Teig said, "how many people don't step up [when they are needed]."
"In this neighborhood, people should know what this guy did for one of our guys and that we got his back," Teig said. "I hope nobody tries to lay a hand on him except to shake his hand."
"That would be nice, real nice," [Whitman] said. "[I] Don't know what all this fuss is about, though. I don't want anybody to make a big deal."

Google sets records with $2.7 billion IPO
Popular search engine company files for its eagerly anticipated initial public offering.
Google, the world's No. 1 Internet search engine, finally filed for its initial public stock offering Thursday and promised to maintain its long-term focus even though it will soon face the intense scrutiny of Wall Street. The company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it expects to raise as much as $2.7 billion from the offering, which it will conduct in the unusual format of an online auction in a bid to make its shares more widely available.
Company Mantra - "Do No Evil"
Google, founded in 1998 by former Stanford University students Sergey Brin and Larry Page, has quickly become one of the most successful Internet companies, thanks to search technology that many experts say is superior to offerings from rivals. (For more on the founders' stakes in Google and their pay, click here).
Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Novell and chief technology officer at Sun Microsystems, joined Google as its chairman in March 2001 and was named CEO later that year.
The company has become not just a tech juggernaut but a popular culture phenomenon as well, with people using the verb "Googled" to describe searching for information on the site.
It probably makes the most sense to compare Google with Yahoo! since it is Google's main rival. Yahoo! reported net income of about $238 million last year and has a market value of about $36 billion. So it is valued at 151 times trailing net income.
Based on that multiple, Google's stock market value would be about $16 billion.
But Google would be worth more if you looked at a price to sales ratio. Yahoo! is valued at about 24.5 times 2003 revenues of about $1.47 billion.
Using that multiple, Google could have a market worth of about $24 billion!
Brin and Page pledged in their letter that they will not play the game of managing expectations, trying to meet quarterly earnings estimates just to appease Wall Street. The two even quoted legendary value investor Warren Buffett.
"In Warren Buffett's words, 'We won't "smooth" quarterly or annual results: If earnings figures are lumpy when they reach headquarters, they will be lumpy when they reach you'," the two wrote.
In addition, the offering is structured in a way so that Brin and Page will continue to have strong control of the company's fate. Brin and Page own nearly a third of the company's Class B stock, which has 10 times the voting power of the Class A shares to be sold in the public offering.
The auction process is fairly unique, particularly for a company of Google's stature.
But Google has a reputation of doing things differently, which should make for some interesting times once the company starts trading.

1. PBS - Children's Stories Under Fire - and is Typical
The recent airing of the PBS documentary about Abuse appear to have backfired on the backers of the production and programming - as the latest court documents and testimony which becomes public record has shown.
Yet - the arguments needlessly continue from both sides LAWYERS against the other in an attempt to dis-credit each special interest groups' side in the matter.
To be balanced - it would appear that both the mother and the father due to the adversarial process we have put into place - have created the negative enviornment for the child.
Both sides are / have clearly shown themselves as acting less mature than children and have been making the case for the other side for over 40 years now. N.O.W. can we ALL Please Stop the Fighting and the Selfishness for our Children - and for their more positive future's in America and around the World?

"If there is a divorce in the family, I urge a presumption of joint custody of the children. Shared parenting is not only fair to men and children, it is the best option for women. After observing women's rights and responsibilities for more than a quarter of a century of feminist activism, I conclude that shared parenting is great for women, giving time and opportunity for female parents to pursue education, training, jobs, careers, profession and leisure. There is nothing scientific, logical or rational in excluding men or forever holding women and children as if in swaddling clothes in an eternally loving bondage. I talked to my kids about your sight, they seem really interested. My son Roy has two kids, not married, but he is a good dad, he provides for his kids and gives
them all the love and affection they need and he totally agrees with what you are doing.
It s a shame that most dads get the rear end of the bargain, I know of some great dads that want to be with their children and would do anything to be with them but mommies don't agree, why because they are in it for the
money, they are selfish, they are thinking of their needs and not the need of the child.
I wish parents would think more about their children and how important they are, children are our future and if we want them to grow up to be great model citizens, we first as parents need to be great model citizens - too.

We need more people like this to help our children all over the world. Children are being exploited everyday and in everyway not only by strangers but by parents also. We need to put a stop to this at once and I think that this program will help do that.
Through my own experience I feel that parents should share their children, why should our children pay for our mistakes why should they be to "blame" we women do this, we take it out on our children, we are so angry at our spouse that it only seems logical to take it out on our children.

Corporate evangelists recruit customers who love to create buzz about a product
When Google hired Vint "Father of the Internet" Cerf last September, it gave him the ecclesiastical-sounding title of "Chief Internet Evangelist." His job, as Cerf himself has explained, is "helping people understand--both inside and outside of Google--what Google's potential is." Now to nontechnophiles or those residing outside Silicon Valley, the move might have seemed like another New Agey gesture by the search-engine superpower. This is, after all, a company with the it's-hard-to-keep-from-rolling-your-eyes corporate mantra of "Don't Be Evil." So, is chief Internet evangelist just an effort to apply a quasi-spiritual gloss on some glorified marketing position?
Don't be cynical. Google is only one of many companies, mostly in the technology sector, designating certain employees as "evangelists." Microsoft has technology evangelists reaching out to developers and consumers through company-sponsored Internet forums such as Channel 9 and The Hive. Some companies, such as Sun Microsystems, have even created the overarching position of "chief evangelist" who focuses more on trumpeting core values and vision. The word "evangelist" comes from the Greek word eu-angelos, meaning "bringer of good news."
But the job of a corporate evangelist is about way more than preaching the wonders of a company to customers and clients. Corporate evangelists recruit customers who love to create buzz about a product
When Google hired Vint "Father of the Internet" Cerf last September, it gave him the ecclesiastical-sounding title of "Chief Internet Evangelist." His job, as Cerf himself has explained, is "helping people understand--both inside and outside of Google--what Google's potential is." Now to nontechnophiles or those residing outside Silicon Valley, the move might have seemed like another New Agey gesture by the search-engine superpower. This is, after all, a company with the it's-hard-to-keep-from-rolling-your-eyes corporate mantra of "Don't Be Evil." So, is chief Internet evangelist just an effort to apply a quasi-spiritual gloss on some glorified marketing position?
Don't be cynical. Google is only one of many companies, mostly in the technology sector, designating certain employees as "evangelists." Microsoft has technology evangelists reaching out to developers and consumers through company-sponsored Internet forums such as Channel 9 and The Hive. Some companies, such as Sun Microsystems, have even created the overarching position of "chief evangelist" who focuses more on trumpeting core values and vision. The word "evangelist" comes from the Greek word eu-angelos, meaning "bringer of good news."
But the job of a corporate evangelist is about way more than preaching the wonders of a company to customers and clients. A FAMILY LAW REFORM - CHILD's BILL of RIGHTS is PARAMOUNT to our Nation's FUTURE
Disputes involving both parental and children's rights have escalated in EVERY State in the UNION in recent years.
So the legal, moral, and ethical question naturally arises: How should Federal and State laws react to these events?
Such an inquiry requires us to examine HISTORY for a reasonable and balanced legal answer. An understanding of American history would help. The journey of the Pilgrims to Massachusetts was a journey of religious conscience from the orthodoxy of Anglican England. So, too, was the journey of the Society of Friends to Pennsylvania.Harlan Fiske Stone, later to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, drew on this history when he wrote: "Both morals and sound policy require that the state should not violate the conscience of the individual. All our history gives confirmation to the view that liberty of conscience has a moral and social value which makes it worthy of preservation at the hands of the state. So deep in its significance and vital, indeed, is it to the integrity of man's moral and spiritual nature that nothing short of the self-preservation of the state should warrant its violation; and it may well be questioned whether the state which preserves its life by a settled policy of violation of the conscience of the individual will not in fact ultimately lose it by the process."
As a society, we have long recognized the truth of Stone's words, refusing even to compel the religious conscience of objectors to serve in wartime. We exempt from combat service anyone who "by reason of religious training and belief, is conscientiously opposed to participation in war in any form. "Our civil rights laws prohibit discrimination" on the basis of religious belief in any employment or business situation.
So, the answer from our history and the law is fairly clear. The answer we've given to those who are conscientious objectors to war should be the same answer we give those who are conscientious objectors to abortion. The principle of liberty of conscience must be a universal one, evenly applied across all religions and all beliefs, lest the government be in the uncomfortable and untenable position of choosing among disparate religious views and determining their legitimacy. We should no more compel a pharmacist to dispense birth control if it violates his conscience than, say, compel a prison guard to participate in an execution if religious objections cause him to oppose capital punishment.
That same history also allows us to draw appropriate lines. Freedom of conscience is a shield against compulsion, not a sword for religious orthodoxy. That is the beauty of the balance struck by the Free Exercise and Establishment clauses of the First Amendment. Those who bring their religion into the public square may not be compelled as the price of admission to abandon it.
But neither can they impose their views on others. Society may accommodate religious beliefs by, for example, not requiring a pharmacist to fill a prescription that violates his scruples. But the pharmacist may not legally then impose his beliefs by refusing to identify an alternate source for medication whose dispensation remains a lawful, and permissible activity.
To be sure, the balance is a delicate one. But it's a line we must draw faithfully if we are to remain true to our history and to the laws currently in place.
Is "Identity Politics" the politics of group-based movements?
The accepted definition of the term is: "Identity politics is the politics of group-based movements claiming to represent the interests and identity of a particular group, rather than policy issues relating to all members of the community. The group identity may be based on ethnicity, class, religion, sex, sexuality or other criteria."
Identity politics divides society into distinct political classes and declares them to be antagonistic to each other’s interests: blacks against whites, women against men, gays against heterosexuals. The focus is on the "rights" of the specific group— that is, those things the group claims to deserve and wishes to acquire by law. The "rights" are commonly based on the existence of historical oppression.
Identity politics is a sharp departure from the traditionally American ideal that rights are universal, not particular. That is, that all human beings possess the same rights, which are not determined by differences such as sex or race.
The presence of slavery in the United States into the 19th century reminds us that the ideal was not always realized, and sometimes not even closely. Nevertheless, it was the ideal of the Declaration of Independence—"all men are created equal" — toward which politics consistently moved.
The abolition of slavery said race was irrelevant to the rights an individual could claim. The enfranchisement of women said much the same thing. When Susan B. Anthony argued for women’s rights, she did not ask for special treatment, only for the full embrace of human rights. She wrote:
"We [women] have stood with the black man in the Constitution over half a century…Enfranchise him, and we are left outside with lunatics, idiots and criminals."
Identical rights under the law carries a strong presumption that all individuals share the fundamental political interest of having those rights respected. Consider freedom of speech. If not protected "freedom of speech" is converted from a Constitutional backed human right into a tool of oppression that must be blunted by force.
Only if you advocate group rights and reject individual ones does it make sense to cry out for sexual solidarity in voting. Ironically, such a call reverses the political trend that secured the vote to women in the first place. Namely, the demand for inclusion in human rights. The demand by women to have their rights equally recognized so they were no longer in a separate legal category "with lunatics, idiots and criminals."
The early feminists who fought for true equality did not speak of "special interests." They spoke of human rights."
Aren't our Nation's CHILDREN deserving of a simplified and non-adversarial process of FAMILY LAW that encourages "Balance, Love and Commitment to the CHILD not to ourselves, and that of fundamentally simple "truth and basic common sense?"

A rag-tag bunch of nobodies has to square off against the unstoppable professionals of the best local youth team. It is a great story, but it has been done to death. If you're a fan of Will Ferrel, you will like this movie. He is very funny in it. The movie also tells the story of the relationship between father and son with both comedy and touching moments sprinkled in. Robert Duvall gives his usual great performance. Mike Ditka gives a pretty funny performance as himself. He played exactly what his image is. If you go to this movie expecting to laugh, you will feel it is worth it!

More than 80 celebrities have joined forces to HELP Others and Change Lives!
More than 80 celebrities have joined forces to read, sing and compose music for "The Bible Experience," a new 70-hour dramatic audio performance of the Scriptures.
Actor Blair Underwood landed one of the key roles in the production - the "L.A. Law" star gets to record the voice of Jesus. "Whether you believe the doctrine or not, you cannot deny the impact that the life of this man, Jesus, had on everyday life," said Underwood, who played Jesus Christ coming back to earth in the 1992 movie "The Second Coming." Underwood's favorite part of his role is the crucifixion. It was "the culmination of the three years of his teachings, but it was the beginning of a whole new walk for believers forever," he told USA Today.
Oscar-winner Denzel Washington also makes a contribution to "The Bible Experience," reciting the love poetry of Solomon's Song of Songs along with his wife Pauletta.
Cuba Gooding Jr. is the voice of Judas, and also the prophet Jonah from the Old Testament.
Robert Guillaume is the mighty angel of Revelation, as well as Noah.
Angela Bassett reads the Christmas story and is Ester from the Old Testament. Tisha Campbell-Martin of "My Wife and Kids" takes the role of Mary Magdalene.
"Our co-producer Lou 'Buster' Brown says we're taking God's word and we're gel-capping it: surrounding it with elements that make it more palatable for mass consumption in today's marketplace," Kyle Bowser, an award-winning co-producer from Inspired By Media Group, told USA Today.
The group launched the multimillion-dollar project with financing from Zondervan, the nation's largest Bible publisher. One question arose during casting: Should only faithful Christians get roles in the project?
"Some of the people whose voices they will be reading were not exactly saints, either," Paul Caminiti, publisher of Bibles for Zondervan, told USA Today.
"We wanted something unusual, something more visceral, something more experiential," he added. "We're trying to engage a new urban generation, and most are already turned off" by the King James' archaic translation. The New Testament in CD and MP3 formats will be in retail outlets by September, and the Old Testament follows next year.

Proposed FEC Rules Would Exempt Most Political Activity on Internet
"We tried to craft a regulation that would allow the maximum amount of freedom for people as possible," said Commissioner Ellen L. Weintraub, a Democrat.
Most bloggers [are] individual Web users, and such Web sites as Drudge Report and Salon.com are exempted from regulation and will be free to support and attack federal candidates, much as newspapers are allowed.
For the most part, leading advocates of the blogger community welcomed the proposed rules. "As a whole, these are rules that I think those who have been fighting regulations are going to be cheering," said Richard L. Hasen, a professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, who runs the Election Law blog. The rules provide "broad exemptions for most political activity on the Internet, and expand the media exemption to the Internet," he said.
Hasen and others noted that as technology advances, the regulations will have to be modified. In particular, Hasen said, "as the Internet and TV converge, the FEC or Congress will eventually need to rethink these rules to see if they make sense."

A blogger who gets paid by a campaign will not have to report the money to the FEC, but the campaign will separately have to disclose the expenditures, under the proposed rules.
They would lift all restrictions on employee use of corporate and union-owned computers for political activities, as long as the work is done on employees' own time, not company time.

6/2004 - "Allred vs. Tong--Is Parental Alienation Syndrome a Fathers' Rights Hoax?" - His Side with Glenn Sacks - The high-profile Bridget Marks custody case in New York has put the gut-wrenching issue of sexual abuse allegations in custody battles in the headlines, and Marks has become a cause celebre for many feminists. In that case the court determined that Marks had coached her four year-old twin girls to claim that they had been sexually molested by their father, and judge Arlene Goldberg switched custody from the mother to the father. False allegations of sexual abuse are an important part of a pathology dubbed "Parental Alienation Syndrome," wherein one parent tries to turn his or her children against the other parent...
Feminists assert that Parental Alienation Syndrome is a father's rights hoax--"junk science"--which unscrupulous fathers use to wrest custody from decent, loving mothers. The father's rights movement sees PAS is a damaging epidemic--one which family courts usually turn a blind eye to.

It continues to show the darkness and the lack of love needed for our children from both parents involved...here is a bit of truth the States leaders are seeing as well - hopefully we will not be censored - for wishing only to share it:
PBS - Children's Stories Under Fire - and is Typical
The recent airing of the PBS documentary about Abuse appear to have backfired on the backers of the production and programming - as the latest court documents and testimony which becomes public record has shown.
Yet - the arguments needlessly continue from both sides LAWYERS against the other in an attempt to dis-credit each special interest groups' side in the matter.
To be balanced - it would appear that both the mother and the father due to the adversarial process we have put into place - have created the negative enviornment for the child - here is an short segment of one sides claims (see if you can pick up on what I mean):
Claim #5) Sadia individually and through Fatima has repeatedly described Scott Loeliger as an abusive husband and an abusive father. These claims have never been substantiated. Despite all the fury and accusations from Sadia and from Sadia through Fatima, neither one of them actually claims that Scott ever physically abused them. The entirety of their claims, even if we were to believe them, is "verbal" and "emotional" abuse. Sadia and Sadia through Fatima claim that Scott is a monster.
Claim #4) In addition to the documents and statements of Arellano and various social workers, therapists, and neutral professionals which detail the mother's - Sadia's - violence and abuse, we also posted a letter from Sara, Sadia's then 15 year-old niece. Sara lived under Sadia's care along with Fatima and her younger sister, and also provided extensive evidence of Sadia's violence and child abuse. In a long, heartbreaking letter written to her father in Kenya, Sara says she feared for her life from Sadia's abuse and tells her father that Sadia "isn't what you think she is." Claim #3) In Sadia's new statement here she claims that the Tulare County Juvenile Court "made its findings despite the fact that both Fatima and I denied, and continue to deny that it [the abuse] actually happened."
A Marriage, Family, Child Therapist who has done investigations for Shasta County Child Protective Services reported "She [Fatima] told me she did not want to go home because she was afraid her mother was going to hit her. Mary K. McDonald, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist who was Fatima's therapist between March of 1993 and December of 1994, reported "I am extremely concerned regarding recent reports that I have received from Fatima Loeliger that lead me to question whether this child is being abused in the care of her mother. Randi Gottlieb Robinson of the Tehama County Department of Social Services in Red Bluff, California, testified as to the abuse Fatima reported to her at Sadia's Tulare County juvenile court trial for child abuse.
